This Year's Event Will Be On  June 30th - July 31st.

What’s On When?

This year’s event is on the weekend of 30th June and 1st July. This is the sixth year that the Richard Hill Primary School PTA (Parent Teacher’s Association) has run the event and it continues to be very popular amongst the local community (as well as with those from further afield). It has been commented that everyone is very friendly and welcoming in our villages.

We hope to have around 20 gardens open across the two villages of various shapes and sizes! Proceeds from the event go towards the school PTA which funds various projects at the school.

We are currently trying to raise funds for a new outdoor classroom to facilitate learning in the outdoor environment. In the past, money has been used to fund a wildlife and vegetable garden within the school grounds and for much needed playground markings.

To volunteer your garden for the event:

We are currently looking for willing volunteers to open their gardens for this year’s event. All gardens are welcome, big or small, immaculate or more ‘wildlife-friendly’! You don’t need to be Charnwood’s greatest gardener just be willing to share your outside space (and all your hard work) with an appreciative audience.

Although we would encourage you to open both days you can do just one day if that is better for you. Gardens will probably be open 2 –6pm on each day

If you would like to open your garden or would like more information please contact:

Last year’s event took place on 25th and 26th June 2011. It was the fifth year that Richard Hill School PTA (Parent Teacher Association) had run the event supported by many generous members of the local community who opened their gardens. The rain showers held off on the Saturday and many people enjoyed a pleasant afternoon strolling round our two villages. The Sunday proved a lot hotter and sunnier, which brought out a lot more people.
Visitors were able to enjoy not only the glorious gardens, but also teas, ice creams and delicious cakes at various gardens en route.

Over 20 gardens were open over the weekend of varying types, large and small: A beautifully relaxing water garden, a fragrant rose garden, a highly productive & organic vegetable garden, the village school garden and many, many others.

The Parish Church also opened on the Saturday serving refreshments whilst the choir were singing. A plant swap was held in one garden where visitors could bring along a spare plant from their own garden to swap for another!

Overall we had around 350 visitors and have raised a fantastic £1550 from the event. This money goes to the school PTA funds and will probably go towards a new outside classroom.
